Scientific cooperations

Modeling is essential for our work and for a a reliable pollen forecast. Models should be understood as support for experts during forecasting and do not always mirror the reality, but even more so the movement of pollen clouds. In most cases the pollen concentration is modeled during the season to give an estimate of the intensity of the pollen concentrations. However, there are also models for calculating the readiness of flower, which are also developed and used by us.

Our most important cooperation partners involve meteorological institutes and are mentioned here:

ZAMG: Die Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik is cooperating closely with us. This cooperation improves the information output mutually and the forecast maps for Austria originated from this team work.

SILAM: System for Integrated Modelling of Atmospheric Composition was developed by the Finish Meteorlogical Institute and has grown into an Europe wide model for alder, birch, grass, olive, mugwort and ragweed pollen in cooperation with the EAN database and thus with us. On our pages the SILAM forecasts are available including the bi-hourly forecasts.

COSMO-ART: The Konsortium for small scale Modelling Aerosols and reaktive Gases is consisting of a numerical weather forecast model (COSMO) and was provided with a module (ART) for forecasting pollen concentrations developed by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and MeteoSwiss. Here more about the model description and the forecast maps. In cooperation with MeteoSwiss we succeeded in implementing the forecasts in our pages and to adapt them (COSMO-ART forecast for Austria).
