Pollenatlas

    description:
    outline:
hexagonal in polar view, oval to circular in equatorial view
size: polar axis: 22.8 (22-25) µm, equatorial axis: 23.7 (23-27) µm
apertures: tricolporate pollen with long, narrow, clear defined colpi and small (2-3 µm) pori.
pollen wall: semi-tectate exine with irregular sculpture (reticulate or frustillate-perforate), flattening towards the colpi. Intine thin, thickening underneath the germination openings.
    remark: similar pollen: Rhamnus

    remarks to the plant:
Most species of Vitis are native in East Asia and North America. Out of about 50 species, only V. vinifera is native to Europe. This perennial, woody climber has circular to circular-ovate, mostly three- to fivelobed leaves with dentate or jagged margins. The inconspicuous yellow-green flowers stand in dense elongated panicles opposite leaves. Flowering time is May to June. Part of the cultivars are self-fertilizing, others are dependent from pollen transfer by insects, but also wind-pollination occurs.
