Distribution:

Europe, northern Asia as far as Japan, often used as an ornamental plant and planted in parks, gardens and on streets

Appearance:

deciduous, rarely evergreen trees and shrubs, leaves arranged alternately and in spirals on the branches, single flat leaf blade, leaf margin usually serrated, single flowers, flowers are hermaphrodite and radially symmetrical, seeds have a hard shell and are surrounded by the flesh of the fruit

Allergenicity:

low, there are reports of pollen allergies from Japan (particularly in the case of manual pollination of Rosaceae)
