Appearance:
deciduous bushes, shrubs or trees, leaf shape differs with species and is round to lanceolate, bottom side of leaf usually hairy, downy catkins, male catkins are thick and ovate, female catkins cylindrical and greenish in colour, propagation may also be vegetative, the fruits are multi-seeded capsules
