Pollenatlas
Malus sp.
species: Malus sp. (Apple)
plant family: Rosaceae
at aerobiological analyses usually achieved determination level: Malus-Pyrus group, Rosaceaephotos: Landesagentur für Umwelt, Bozen (Italy)
description:
outline: rounded triangular in polar view, ovate in equatorial view
size: polar axis: 32.4 (30-34) µm, equatorial axis 37.1 (35-39) µm
apertures: tricolate pollen with wide colpi, almost meeting in the polar field
pollen wall: thin, psilate exine, thin intine, protruding in the area of the colpiremarks to the plant:
Apple is a popular fruit bearing tree, planted in numerous cultivars at colline and montane levels. Flowering time is April and May. Its white, often red-seamed flowers are an important nutrition for bees – sometimes a few pollen become also airborne.Mercurialis annua
species: Mercurialis annua
plant family: Euphorbiaceae
at aerobiological analyses usually achieved determination level: Mercurialis, Euphorbiaceaephotos: Landesagentur für Umwelt, Bozen (Italy)
description:
outline: circular
size: polar axis: 19.3 (18.8-19.8) µm, equatorial axis: 19.2 (17.8-19.8) µm.
apertures: tri-zono-colporate with spinale-shaped colpi and about 6 µm wide pori. Margins of the colpi granulate, elongated operculum consisting of one or two rows of dots (exine-residues).
pollen wall: thin, frustillate (micro-reticulate) exine. Thin intine, protruding at the pori area.
additional attribute: granulous plasma
note: similar pollen: Filipendularemarks to the plant:
Annual Mercury is a weed growing on waste land, in fields and wineyards. The plant is dioeceous in most cases. The small, greenish –yellowish flowers open between May and October. Male flowers sit on long spiky stalks, females on short panicles. Mercury has a very interesting way to release pollen into the air: short before unfolding, the flowers are pushed off, causing the stamina to open and ejecting thus the pollen.Morus alba
species: Morus alba
plant family: Moraceae
at aerobiological analyses usually achieved determination level: Morus, Moraceaephotos: Landesagentur für Umwelt, Bozen (Italy)
description:
outline: circular
size: polar axis: 18.5 (16.8-19.8) µm equatorial axis: 19.8 (17.8-21.8) µm.
apertures: diporate, seldom triporate pollen, apertures up to 3 µm wide and clearly visible opercula.
pollen wall: thin, psilate or scabrate exine, thin intine, with 4-6µm wide onci.
additional attribute: subtle granular plasma.
note: similar pollen: Humulus (Humulus is triporate, flowering in late summer)remarks to the plant:
White mulberry originates from Eastern Asia and has been introduced to Southern Europe because of its sweet edible fruits and over all as the nourishment for the silkworm. The species is monoecious or dioecious, flowering in April and May.Myrtus communis
species: Myrtus communis
plant family: Myrtaceae
at aerobiological analyses usually achieved determination level: Myrtaceaephotos: Landesagentur für Umwelt, Bozen (Italy)
description:
outline: triangular in polar view, elliptical in equatorial view
size: polar axis: 11.0 (10.9-11.9) µm, equatorial axis: 15.6 (13.8-16.8) µm
apertures: tricolporate, mostly syncolpate pollen grain narrow colpi and about 2-3 µm wide pori
pollen wall: very thin psilate or scabrate exine, the thin intine thickens protuberantly underneath the pori. Pollen wall overall about 1 µm thick
note: similar pollen: Eucalyptusremarks to the plant:
Myrtle is a shub of the Mediterranean with evergreen, intensively scented leaves. It is known as an essential element of the Macchia and colonises rocky soils. Often it is cultivated as ornamental and for hedges. Its white flowers are rich of nectar. They appear in June and July.
